During this last year, I have examined several Wills and Trusts. When forgery is involved, those Wills and Trusts involve cutting out several people and giving the bulk of what is to be inherited to primarily one person. Because of the years as a document examiner, this always looks suspicious. When someone contacts me and says, "I noticed the signatures just don't look right", they are usually correct. I can truly say that greed and being self-serving is very much alive and well. It is difficult to evaluate intent until someone makes that intent known by taking legal documents, changing the wording to eliminate primarily everyone but themselves, and craftily signing or tracing another person's name. But, then, we get into a whole new legal definition of the word intent.
The loss of a loved one is usually a very difficult time. There are those who are mourning and then find themselves shocked when the Will is produced and read. Greed and being self-serving doesn't just exhibit in those who are wealthy, it can be observed even in those who have little of this world's material goods.
